Melroy Heemskerk will be competing in the FIA GT Series round at Zandvoort this weekend. The 24-year-old driver will race the BMW Sports Trophy Team India BMW Z4 GT3 during the RTL GP Masters of Formula 3 weekend at the Dutch circuit. Heemskerk will be the third Dutch driver on the grid, he will be joined by Max Braams and Duncan Huisman in a Corvette Z06 GT3 entered by V8 Racing.
At BMW Sports Trophy Team India Heemskerk will be reunited with team manager Gary Ayles. Ayles and Heemskerk worked together at the Masters in 2012 as well when the Dutchman raced the Lotus Sport UK Lotus Evora GT4 in the HDI-Gerling Dutch GT Championship at the RTL GP Masters of Formula 3.
Heemskerk will join Indian driver Armaan Ebrahim in the Vita4One Racing Team operated car. In preparation for the Zandvoort weekend Heemskerk tested with Vita4One Racing Team at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit on Wednesday during the traditional test day for the Total 24 Hours of Spa, later this month.
The deal to race with BMW Sports Trophy Team India at Zandvoort was only concluded on Tuesday and Heemskerk was very happy to confirm he will be racing at Zandvoort. “I am incredibly happy and proud that we’ve been able to secure this deal! Of course, I am very grateful to the team and my sponsors for this opportunity,” Heemskerk said.
