The entry for the Road to Le Mans race, which will be held on the Saturday morning of the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans race week has been revealed. The hour-long race, which is the highlight of the inagural Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup season, will see a total of 39 cars compete split across the LMP3 and GT3 classes.
In the LMP3 class, 22 cars are set to race. Three prominent La Sarthe figures will be among them, with former overall Le Mans winners Martin Brundle and Jan Lammers driving for United Autosports and Racing Team Holland Ligiers respectively and Le Mans class winner Lawrence Tomlinson entered under his own name in a Ginetta.
Of the 22 LMP3 cars, only two aren’t Ligiers. The aforementioned Tomlinson Ginetta and PS Racing ADESS O3 will be present, with Murphy’s entry listed as a Ligier and not a Ave-Riley for Tony Ave and Doug Peterson. It will however be the first time that an LMP3 race has featured more than two manufacturers.
Six cars present are entered by non-ELMS teams – with an additional (3rd car) each for Graff Racing and Duqueine Engineering.
Graff Racing will field James Winslow and Rui Aguas will drive for AF Corse; the duo will therefore be doing double duty at Le Mans, racing in the full 24 hours too. The entry for the full Le Mans 24 hours is available here.
In GT3, 11 of the 17 cars entered are from the GT3 Le Mans Cup, with the only missing car from the opener at Imola being the BMS Scuderia Italia Ferrari 458 which DSC confirmed will only run select rounds for the rest of the season.
Most notable of the one-off GT3 cars are from British GT regulars: TF Sport’s second Aston Martin for Devon Modell and Andrew Jarman, and Barwell’s Lamborghini Huracan with Richard Abra and Mark Poole driving. Larbre Competition is also set to bring a Mercedes AMG GT3 to the party.
