Andre Lotterer
“Ben is still injured so Marcel and I got a lot of seat time. It is a shame today. I think at one stage I was looking really good. We also had a good chance with the other car.
“Our car was really good and we had the good tyres at the right time so that made my life a bit easier.
“At the beginning I had a good start but suddenly for some reason I started suffering massively with grip. We still have to discover what happened there.
“We could see in the data so we decided to change the tyres earlier and from then on it was fine.
“This really offset us a bit and with the first full course yellow we lost a lot but then we came back and it was really fun.
“Then we had this little issue with the brakes but still it was not bad to finish second with the problem we had.
“I don’t know whether it was the same thing that happened to the No.8 car. These cars are very complex and we have an electronic braking system that helps us to manage our retardation and suddenly my wheels locked.
“Afterwards it wasn’t functioning properly. It rarely happens but sometimes it does.”
Kamui Kobayashi
“For us we didn’t really expect to finish here and be second in the championship. It was difficult to finish the race. Even before the start we had to change the gears. We never finished a session leading up the race without any trouble so it was great work by the team guys and to finish here is great for us.”
Mike Conway
“At the time of the penalty I thought it was a bit harsh but then I saw the replay and yeah – I maybe came over a little bit too much and then we touched.
“It was a shame to lose that time but in the end it was some great stints by Stephane at the end. We had a chance to get P2 and it was a shame we didn’t do that.
“The rain just didn’t come for us at the end. That’s the chance you take.
“It’s great to be second in the championship – unbelievable really considering where we qualify sometimes.
“We just race as hard as we can.”
Stephane Sarrazin
“It was an incredible race for us. We started sixth and I crashed heavily in practice. I only eight laps before the race so I wasn’t very confident about the beginning.
“Once we were in the race our car was really fast. The conditions were good for us in the wet.
“At the end in the last stint I went onto the intermediate tyres very early 25 laps before the end when it was dry.
“I think we lost second place at this point but we had no choice.
“It was a very good race from the team because they worked very hard to repair the car.
“The crash was very big and they worked all night. I’m very happy for the mechanics and my teammates and being second in the championship is very good.
“Next race we will push hard like this one and do our best.”
Alexandre Imperatori
“Our race was quite uneventful. We’d like to have a bit more of a battle for sure.
“We knew we had to nurse the car with the altitude. There were a lot of challenges from the mechanical side for the race.
“For the start we got a bit boxed in with the Toyotas. We had quite a bit more power at the start.
“That gave the CLM to pass us at the start but then pretty quickly we could get the upper hand again and start to pull away.
“It was just a matter of bringing the car home and looking after it. I think my two teammates did a good job and it is a great reward for the whole team.
Dominik Kraihamer
“It was quite tricky with the rain coming and we had to change to inters twice. I didn’t know what to expect with the track with all the start-top corners.
“Normally in the dry you would take a lot of kerbs which you can’t do in the rain.
“It was very tricky. As Alex said it was just a race to bring it home. Sometimes it was a bit boring without competition but the Kolles did a good job but they had some problems.
“We’re hoping to be able to finish the season well and hopefully have more competition next year – finger’s crossed!”
Matteo Tuscher
“Working as a team was great the No.12 car was helping us a lot previously but now we have to move on with the No.13. The guys are still hoping to develop the car more.
“Now we’re working fine without our teammates and we’re trying to get the best out of one car.”
Ricardo Gonzalez
“I think it is going to take a while to sink in. We knew since the beginning of the year that we were competitive. We won the first race but it is such a tough category that to win again you never know when it is going to happen.
“You saw at the end of the race it was nerve racking. I didn’t even want to watch the TV anymore and I wanted to fast track the clock.
“But now we’re here and the podium was very special to have the people singing the anthem. It was very nice, it is going to sink in my brain forever.”
Bruno Senna
“It was a tough race. In terms of results it was a perfect race with pole position, fastest lap and the win but the race didn’t go quite as planned.
“We lost of a lot of time with different things. The team did a fantastic job from the first lap I did with the car. I was comfortable and happy and I could just push.
“The race was the same thing. I was able to open up a gap to P2 but then Rast was catching me a little bit as the tyres struggled a little bit.
“Towards the end the tyres were perfect again and I had the confident to push.
“I didn’t spend that much time in the car today, the guy who won the race for us today was Mr Albuquerque who did a fantastic job. Ricardo as well did a fantastic job in his stint.
“This podium is very special and I will never forget it for sure.”
Filipe Albuquerque
“In the end over six hours many things happen and we end up in a situation we were just 30 seconds away from the top two guys. I had so much anger to fight for the win and I was dropping down the seconds to Lapierre.
“Then I heard on the radio that Jota had a problem. I wanted the win because I knew how important this was for us.
“When I heard Signatech had a drive through I went from the car to the rat.
“So he was catching me back and when the rain came I knew what he was think – he was taking risks to put pressure on me.
“It was a mental game and I had to just keep it steady. One time I went a little wide in turn one. In the end I wanted this win so bad for the team. It was very important for them I knew how special it would be on the podium.
“I’m not a Mexican but I almost had a tear in my eye with everyone singing the national anthem it was so special and now maybe Bruno and I will get a Mexican passport.”
Richie Stanaway
“It was a good race for us and obviously we had a big advantage here this weekend. It looked like if it stayed dry all weekend it was going to be a fairly easy 1-2.
“When the rain came it mixed things up a bit and we were trying to keep the thing on the track.
“It was tempting to come in for inters but I knew it was best to stay out and try to take an advantage by not stopping.
“I’m really happy for AMR. It is our first win of the season and also pleased for Dunlop. It is our first season working with them and for them to get the pole yesterday and win today is a privilege for us to provide that.
“It was a fun race but the weather made it a lot more exciting than if it had stayed dry. I really enjoyed it”
Darren Turner
“It was funny that Richie was enjoying it because I wasn’t enjoying it at this end!
“The last hour and half was really stressful and the pace of the competition was really strong. “We had a bit of a buffer at that stage but the team is telling you how many laps to go and what the gap is and I’m trying to work it out and do the math as I’m driving around.
“I thought we would be alright and I could throttle back a bit. It was a great result for the team. “The turning point for us was Richie’s stint on the slick tyres in the wet conditions. That really helped us get to the end.”
Khaled Al Qubaisi
“The Porsche was quite good as I don’t think we lost quite as much as the others with the high altitude.
It was a great race. We have been having some bad luck for a few races but now Mexico is a good luck charm for us. I think we should have all our races here in Mexico and instead of calling it the WEC we’ll call it the MEC.”
Pat Long
“The good thing about this class is there is a lot of mixed strategies. I think there were probably four or five out of the seven cars on different strategies.
“In the end I think the word “AM” doesn’t do this class justice. The guys to the right and left of me are putting in lap times with the consistency of a lot of people who get paid to do this.
“Ironically I think we are the only car out there that the two guys who have the Silver and Bronze ratings actually have a real job.
“I’m extremely proud to drive with these two guys. They are ultimately the reason why we won today because if you look at the average stint pace of the three guys, that was the difference.
“You could have given us any one of those cars today and these guys would have put us up front.”
David Heinemeier Hansson
“It was an up and down race in terms of strategy. When we were on wet tyres, others were on slicks then vice versa.
“I had a lot of fun with the Ferrari on wets passing them like they were standing still then they would do the same to me when the track dried up.
“It was fun mixing it back and forth but it was fun to win for Porsche for the first time in FIA WEC this year.
“It was amazing and hopefully the bad luck is behind us and we can make this a habit.”
