Multimatic Motorsports Mustangs Mustered For 2019 British GT Championship

Billy Johnson and Scott Maxwell confirmed together with Seb Priaulx

Multimatic Motorsports will field a pair of Ford Mustang GT4s in the 2019 British GT Championship in a high profile full season entry.

The team is operated by the same organisation that field the FIA WEC Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GTs.

The factory-blessed Ford Mustang GT4 is developed and built by Multimatic and arrives on the UK scene already with title winning form having taken the manufacturer’s title in the 2018
IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.

It will be the first entry into the British Championship since a one-off appearance at the Snetterton race in 2007, again from a Multimatic entered version of their then GT3 offering, the car entered as part of its development programme with Gunnar Jeannette and Eric de Doncker bringing it home a distant seventh.

Multimatic Vice-President Larry Holt: “British GT is a fantastic platform to show off our product to potential customers so we’re excited to go head-to-head with the GT4 cars from companies like Aston Martin, McLaren and Mercedes.

“We have put together an incredible group of people and resources to run the Ford GTs in WEC and will combine those with the North American Multimatic team to expand our racing programme here in England.”

On the driving front Multimatic will field a pair of their established talents: Scott Maxwell and Billy Johnson, the pair set to pilot a car apiece.

One of them will be partnered with Seb Priaulx, the 2018 F4 front-runner and 2017 Ginetta Juniors runner-up switching to GTs after testing for the team recently and now confirmed for the full season. He will now be driving for the same team as his father, FIA WEC Ford factory driver Andy Priaulx.

According to the Championship rules, Priaulx’s current Silver ranking would prevent him from being partnered by Gold-graded Johnson.

“Looking forward to every new racing season is always exciting and for me the 2019 one can’t start soon enough. The opportunity to race in British GT is amazing. Also to be with such a great team is something every driver dreams of, and I know I shall learn an awful lot from being part of such a professional outfit. I have seen what a competitive championship British GT is and know it will be tough, but I really enjoyed the test in the Mustang and I can’t wait to get out there and race!”

Holt continued: “Seb was extremely impressive in the Mustang when we tested him at Snetterton and I can’t think of a better story than bringing on the next generation of Priaulx. He will learn a lot from Billy and Scott, including how to drift properly!”

The first race of the 2019 British GT Championship takes place at Oulton Park in Cheshire at Easter.
