Racing Team Nederland has made its decision on tyres, the Dutch team confirming to DSC that it will race with Michelin this season.
Xavier Combet, the head of TDS (which is running the Dutch team’s programme), said that after sampling both Goodyear and Michelin tyres, that the team feels Michelin is the best option for the 2019/20 season.
This means that only the High Class Racing, Jota Sport and Jackie Chan DC Racing ORECAs will run on Goodyear tyres this season. Five of the eight LMP2 entries for this season will race with Michelin.
RTN is the only team that has been sampling both Michelin and Goodyear tyres in Spain, all other teams had made their decision prior to the Prologue. In the first session yesterday, RTN’s best time, set by Giedo van der Garde, was believed to have been set on Goodyear tyres.
Nyck de Vries and Frits van Eerd have also testing with RTN in Spain, in addition to its newest driver Job van Uitert, who has been turning laps today ahead of his partial WEC season with the outfit, which he told DSC is “a dream come true.”
A Goodyear source told DSC in reaction to this news that it remains fully focused to working with its committed WEC customers, and will continue to work hard developing its tyre selection for the season.
“We thank Racing Team Nederland for testing some of our initial tyre specifications and respect their decision to remain with their current tyre partner for the time being,” Ben Crawley, the head of Goodyear’s WEC programme said when asked for comment by DSC.
DSC understands that Goodyear’s running will continue beyond the Prologue with Jota Sport. Its ORECA will stay on for a three-day tyre test in Spain, to help the constructor nail down its specification selection for Silverstone.
