TUSCC Draft Prototype Regs Issued

The first draft regulations designed to equalise (as far as is possible) the LMP2 and DP machinery that will together form the 2014 Prototype class for the inaugural TUSCC have been released to teams.

They contain what is probably a rather nasty surprise for the DP owners with additional changes possible on top of the enhanced rear aero (duel element rear wing and diffuser/ tunnel) already widely trailed. LMP2 cars require very minor changes form their ACO rules spec.

DPs will also get additional power with around 50bhp expected.

The cars will also though have the opportunity to choose a series of open choice major components including clutch, diff, braking system and some suspension components.

Traction control is also allowed for the first time, as are lithium iron batteries and single piece wheels.

That leaves the door open for manufacturer backed squads to up the ante very considerably, but in doing so they stand to push the speed, and the potential cost, of a DP programme well beyond the currently expected LMP2 mark.

With a Corvette DP programme already well underway and with Ford announcing a high profile effort into DP for 2014 with MSR is this the first move towards establishing a factory-favoured area within the Prototype class?

LMP2 machinery meanwhile will run at a minimum weight of 960kg and the homologated Le Mans (low drag) aero kit is compulsory for the Rolex 24, Indianapolis and Road America.
