IMSA Balance of Performance Update

The first tranche of the expected changes to Balance of Performance for the TUSCC runners have emerged as the teams prepare for next weekend’s Sebring Winter Test.

The petrol-fuelled P2 cars get a marginal increase in fuel capacity, up to 75 litres from the 72 they carried at Daytona and those tanks will be filled a little faster too with a 1 mm increase in the fuel flow restrictor on the fuelling rig (up to 33 mm from 32 mm)

Evaluation is ongoing for the air restrictor sizes and turbo boost levels (Ford) for the DP runners.

The Daytona mandated minimum rear wing angle to reduce top speeds and prevent over-stressing the engines – is removed.

GTLM

Changes across the board for the GTLMs seem to indicate perhaps some concerns of the factory backed cars getting in amongst the Prototypes?

The Porsche 911 RSRs lose 10 litres of fuel capacity (down from 110L to 100) with the BMWs doled out an identical change too. The Ferraris lose even more with a 16 litre reduction (110 to 94).

Corvette’s C7.Rs lose seven litres (110 to 103), the and SRT Vipers lose more than double that, down 15 litres from 120 to 105.

Aston Martin meanwhile lose just three litres (90 to 87).

There are changes in minimum weights too with the BMW Z4 GTLMs gaining 15kgs(up to 1245kg) at a circuit where their handling prowess is expected to pay dividends.

The Vipers lose half of the 30 kilo weight break they were handed for Daytona (now up to 1250 kg) and they get a pair of 3mm smaller air restrictors too.

The Aston Martin meanwhile, widely viewed to have been on the wrong side of the Balance of Performance last time out loses 20 kilos, down to 1205kg with a pair of 3mm larger air restrictors.

The cars will be testing in these revised specs at Sebring International Raceway on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 20-21, with two full days of testing for both TUSCC and the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.
