Dan Bathie and Camden Thrasher evidently managed to get out of Vegas with at least some money and without further law enforcement related drama – Day 3 though would see awe, history, and a gas station name that …. well read on, you’ll see!
Miles driven 523.1
Today I spent a lot of time saying ‘wow’
Leaving Vegas the countryside was pretty spectacular, desert and mountains are a good combination.
About an hour from Vegas was our first stop. The Hoover Dam.
Wow. It’s big! It’s a spectacular piece of engineering.
Back on the road we were getting hungry so stopped at a place which offered the best burger, Uranus Gas and the opportunity to shoot a machine gun. My kind of service station!
As we drew closer to the Grand Canyon I got to cross another thing off my bucket list. Drive on Route 66. It was only for a few miles, in the town of Williams but it allowed me to buy a sticker without feeling guilty!
Only 40 miles left and from the road we saw an aeroplane museum. Be rude not to stop we thought.
It’s not the largest museum but Planes of Fame is a great stop. We were given a tour of a Lockheed Constellation and could check out the rest of the aircraft as close as you can. We couldn’t stay long as the sun was starting to get lower in the sky.
The Grand Canyon. WOW. The sun setting, casting a golden hue over the already golden rock is something I’ll never forget. The vastness is mind-blowing.
With no more light left we said goodbye to the Canyon and took the 4 hour trip to Phoenix. Tomorrow beckons more planes and another state.
