Risi Competizione, has had an awful start to 2014 with major damage at both Daytona and Sebring to the #62 Ferrari, but the resilience of the fan favourite team has come through once again with the Houston-based squad ready to go for the 100 minute race around the streets of Long Beach.
Full season driver Giancarlo Fisichella will be paired in Long Beach with a newcomer to Risi and Ferrari, 25-year-old Dane Cameron. Cameron joins the squad after Matteo Malucelli was banned for the Long Beach race after the Italian was deemed at fault for a dangerous manoeuvre when rejoining the track after his accident at Sebring.
Giuseppe Risi said of his new recruit:
“I’m delighted to welcome Dane to Risi. He’s a talented young man and has been on our radar for some time and, through the unfortunate set of circumstances which we don’t need to dwell on, we have found ourselves able to offer him this opportunity to drive for us at Long Beach. For the moment it’s just a one-off, and we’ll have to see how things progress from there.”
The 2013 ALMS LMPC Champion from Glen Allen, California has been racing in sports cars since 2009 and enjoyed considerable success in every area in which he’s raced. He was also a standout in GTD in the 12 Hours of Sebring, claiming class pole position and fastest lap on his way to 7th in class. Cameron briefly tested the Risi Ferrari in Texas before heading to California and is excited about the opportunity facing him.
