The opening round of the International GT Open will be shown live from the Nürburgring on Motors TV on Sunday morning, together with Saturday’s Race 1 delayed. Mark Cole and Tom Gaymor will present all the action as a 25-car field battles it out in the Eifel, just a short distance from the previous day’s Spa Six Hours.
Race 1 will be shown delayed at 09.50 BST, followed by Race 2 live at 10.50, as Andrea Montermini defends his 2013 Super GT (GT2) title with Scuderia Villorba Corse Ferrari, partnered this year by fellow Italian Niccolo Schiro. And Lorenzo Bontempelli, Kessel Ferrari’s 2013 GTS (GT3) vice-champion, is looking to go one better this year, switching to Lamborghini with the new Venice-based Eurotech team. The field has attracted a high-quality entry representing six manufacturers in both GT2 and GT3 – 10 Ferraris, four Corvettes, four Lamborghinis, three Porsches and a brace each of Audis and Mercedes.
There is British interest in Duncan Cameron sharing his AF Corse 458 with Matt Griffin, and Archie Hamilton switching to Corvette with Diederick Sijthoff in the Dutch V8 Racing outfit. The Jesus Pareja-run series has pulled in big names this year as the eight-round GT Open starts to rival the ADAC GT Masters – Tomas Enge, Thomas Jäger, Nicky Pastorelli, Nick Catsburg, Andrea Piccini and Peter Kox are among star drivers. It comes to Silverstone again in July, with other rounds at Spa, Monza, Hungaroring, Barcelona, Portimão and Jerez.
