JMW Motorsport has confirmed a very different looking driver line up for the team’s 2014 Le Mans 24 Hours campaign, the fifth occasion that the Jim McWhirter owned team will contest the world’s greatest endurance race.
The team’s GTE Am class Ferrari 458 will be driven by Abdulaziz Alfaisal, Seth Neiman and Spencer Pumpelly.
Abdulaziz Alfaisal returns to JMW for a second consecutive Le Mans 24 Hours, 2014 will be his fourth race at Le Sarthe.
From ‘across the pond’ Flying Lizards regulars Seth Neiman and Spencer Pumpelly join the effort.
2014 will be Pumpelly’s third Le Mans and Seth’s ninth. It will be a first for both the Americans though as neither have previously raced a Ferrari GT. The Lizards will be supported by the teams technical and strategic ‘Dynamic Duo’ – Eric Ingraham and Thomas Blam.
This will be JMW’s first Le Mans on their new Michelin rubber.
Jim McWhirter, Team Principal
“I am delighted to welcome Seth, Spencer and Aziz into the JMW Family for Le Mans 2014. They are all former competitors at Le Mans, indeed Aziz drove extremely well for us in 2013 and it is a pleasure to welcome him back. Seth and Spencer bring loads of experience and I believe that with this driver line-up combined with our five years knowledge of Le Mans we can be very competitive against strong opposition.”
Tim Sugden, Team Manager
“I am really looking forward to the race now! Having signed a really great group of drivers I can’t wait to get to the test and work together, I have a really good feeling about it. This will be our 6th Le Mans as JMW and the desire to be on that podium is stronger than ever for everyone in the team. It’s so exciting to be working with Seth and Spencer and of course Aziz feels like part of the family already! Roll on June…”
Abdulaziz Alfaisal, Driver
“I look forward to competing again in Le Mans this year with JMW. We aim for a podium finish – to drive in Le Mans is a penultimate objective for every driver, let alone finish on the podium!”
Seth Neiman, Driver
“I wasn’t sure I could find a way back to Le Mans after the class changes with the creation of TUSC. Missing last year – my first June home in nearly a decade – was no fun at all. Doing so with JMW and Ferrari promises to be a very competitive experience. We will miss our normal co-drivers from the States, Dion and Nelson, but Spencer’s Le Mans experience is irreplaceable for this effort. This is a strong team, a strong car, with great co-drivers. I am really looking forward to this effort with JMW”
Spencer Pumpelly, Driver
“I’m very excited to be returning to Le Mans. Seth and I have had great opportunities to win there in the past and hopefully we can make this the year we do it. I’m also looking forward to racing Ferrari for the first time in my career and while we’ll miss Dion and Nelson we’ll do our very best to represent them and the entire Flying Lizard organization in France at this great race”
