TUSCC: Watkins Glen, Free Practice 3 Report

Action Express Racing led the way in the third and final TUDOR United SportsCar Championship practice prior to qualifying for Sunday’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

A late flyer by Christian Fittipaldi ended the final free practice session at Watkins Glen on top of the pile taking the Action Express #5 Corvette DP around in 1:39.675 ahead of Ryan Dalziel in the #1 ESM HPD ARX-03b and the #90 Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP of Michael Valiante.

Tom Kimber-Smith topped the LMPC times with a 1:42.166 in the #25 8Star Oreca.

Andy Priaulx put his #55 BMW Team RLL Z4 GTE on top in GTLM with a 1:45.129 ahead of Jan Magnussen’s #3 Corvette C7.R and the #912 Porsche 911 RSR of Michael Christensen.

Leh Keen put the #22 Weathertech Porche on top in GTD (1:50.422) ahead of the #44 Magnus Porsche and #45 Flying Lizards Audi.

The session though saw near disaster as Chris Miller in the #85 JDC-Miller LMPC Oreca was the entirely innocent victim of a disastrous decision from Alex Tagliani to rejoin the track after a spin, just as a train of cars approached, the #08 stumbling right across the track and into the path of Miller’s #08 RSR Oreca.

The subsequent impact caused major damage to both cars but the drivers were both unhurt. (With apologies to Chris Miller for the major error in the earlier report of this incident).
