In addition to the title-challenging Ecurie Ecosse BMW Z4 GT3, Barwell Motorsport will be running the Team Russia By Barwell car – normally to be found in the GTC class of the ELMS – in next week’s British GT double-header at the Belgian circuit. Timur Sardarov and Jonny Cocker will share driving duties, with the aim being to further expand the Russian driver’s racing experience in his first season of international GT racing.
“It’s great that Timur and Jonny will make it two Barwell-run cars at Spa, a track where the BMW Z4 should go well,” said Mark Lemmer, Barwell Motorsport Team Principal. “It’s all about learning for Timur, at one of the best tracks in the world, but knowing him and Jonny they will also be chasing a good result!”
Alexander Sims will return to the Ecurie Ecosse car for the two one-hour races after missing Snetterton as a result of his factory obligations at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, and will be looking to restore his partner to the championship lead.
Sims will also share the car with Ecosse’s BES regulars Andrew Smith, Alasdair McCaig and Olly Bryant at the Spa 24 a fortnight later.
The two Barwell-run cars will face extra competition from AF Corse at Spa, with no fewer than five Ferrari 458 Italia GT3s expected to be entered for the BGT races by the Italian team in preparation for the 24.
