McLaren GT will debut the new 650S Sprint racing car in this weekend’s GT Cup race at Donington Park.
The £200,000 racer is powered by a 3.8 litre twin turbo charged V8 and includes air conditioning. The car is based on the road-going 650S Coupe with a number of upgrades and modifications to make it more track-focused. These include 19 inch centre-locking wheels, an integrated air jack system and a ‘bag tank’ fuel system.
McLaren GT factory Driver Rob Bell will pilot the car on its global competitive debut, taking part in both Saturday’s pit stop race and the second race on Sunday.
“Rob has done a lot of the development work on the 650S so it was only right that he should be the one to drive it on its debut” said McLaren GT Sprint Project Manager, Brad Fincham. Bell will share driving duties with German based Pistonheads journalist Dale Lomas, who has previously competed in a Mazda MX5 and Toyota GT86 numerous times around the awesome Nurburgring-Nordschleife
The car has been designed and manufactured by McLaren GT at their Woking factory.
The car will be entered under the Prosource.it by Von Ryan Racing banner with support from the factory on its worldwide debut.
