Hankook Bidding For WEC/ ACO Contract

Hankook are potentially set to re-enter ACO rules racing with a bang for the first time since the Farnbacher Racing run Ferrari campaign from 2009-2011.

The Korean tyre maker have been in discussions with the ACO over the expected contract for a sole supplier for the LMGTE Am class of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship.

There is also a plan afoot to bring in a sole supplier for the GTC class in the European Le Mans Series, again Hankook are understood to be in the mix for this contract too.

The move to a sole supplier for GTE Am has been under consideration for some time as part of a cost cutting exercise designed to support the Pro-Am teams involved in the class.

There is no information available as yet on whether or when a tender will be issued to appoint a supplier, or what the proposed solution to tyre supply would be at the Le Mans 24 Hours where the WEC full season entrants share a class with other non WEC entrants.

Hankook’s potential re-entry into the ACO rules market comes as the tyre maker adds the Creventic-run “24H Series” to their motorsport portfolio.

There was no comment from The FIA WEC on the matter yesterday, and no response to requests for comment from Hankook.
