McLaren 650S GT3 Development Continues, 13 New Cars Sold

The DSC Editor caught up with McLaren GT boss Andrew Kirkaldy this morning, Andrew taking five minutes out from the latest test with the development car for McLaren’s 2015 GT3 contender.

“Actually we have the second development car here for the first time today. We’ve already put 6000 development kilometres on the first car, having the second car will be a huge plus.

“We’re currently wading through the homologation process for the car, always a long and involved process, but the interest in the car is very, very strong.”

That interest amounts to “13 or 14” confirmed orders, with a further half dozen or so further prospects for the new car, and these are for new cars, with an additional double figure total for upgrade kits for the current MP4/12C GT3.

“There has been a very positive response from our current customers, and from new customers too to the new car. Interest from Asia has been particularly strong.”

The 650S looks set to be seen in almost all major markets, North America, Europe, Asia, but not, for the moment at least, in Australia:

“We’re talking to our customers in Australia about Bathurst in February but it would have to b with the ’14 car, the new car won’t race there in 2015 as the rule is that the cars must be to at least a year old spec to keep costs down.”

There are announcements to come from several exiting and some new customers.
