Trent Hindman staged a fighting display to take third overall, and the GS Championship title in a typically combative season finale to the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge at Road Atlanta.
A problematic qualifying session saw the #46 Fall-Line BMW M3 driver having to fight through the field in tricky conditions from a lowly 17th place starting slot but a stint worthy of a Champion saw the BMW handed over safely to team-mate John Edwards from 3rd position.
As a greasy track started to dry out Edwards was in contention for the podium, but fully aware that a Championship was at stake.
He did more than enough to get the job done, finishing the race in second place behind the #158 Multimatic Mustang Boss 302R of Ian James and Billy Johnson, the first win of the year for the Mustang.
The title fight though was between the #46 BMW and the #6 Stevenson Motorsports Camaro Z/28.R of Robin Liddell and Andrew Davis, and the Camaro was running second in the final stages of the race before contact between Liddell and Mark Wilkins in the #8 Mantella Autosport Aston Martin Vantage GT4 dropped the Camaro down the order and out of title contention.
That left the door open for the Cayman to grab second place and secure the Championship win
In ST it was all about the Championship points battle with Eric Foss arriving at Road Atlanta with a 9 point advantage over Will Nonnamaker.
Foss though was another man whose Qualifying performance left questions coming into the race, the #56 Murillo Racing Porsche Cayman starting in 11th.
Kyle Gimple and Ryan Eversley’s #75 Compass360 Racing Honda Civic Si would take a lights to flag win ahead of the #26 Freedom Autosport’s Mazda MX-5 and the #88 Rebel Rock Racing Porsche Cayman.
Meanwhile the Championship leaders staged a drive for the title that saw the Cayman up to sixth by the end of the race with the title rival #42 Sahlen Cayman with Will Nonnamaker and Michael Valiante finishing in fourth, closing the points gap, but not enough to stop Foss from taking the Silverware.
Freedom Autosport’s No. 26 Mazda MX-5 finished second with the No. 88 Rebel Rock Racing Porsche Cayman third.
