Michael Lyons is setting his sight on a possible future move to LMP2 after testing the Murphy Prototypes Oreca-Nissan at Snetterton last month.
The current AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia driver greatly impressed team boss Greg Murphy at the test, which Lyons completed the day before ‘Pipo’ Derani’s first seat time in the green LMP2 car.
“He is very good and acquitted himself well,” said Murphy. “In my mind a lad of his talent should be in LMP2, no doubt about it. He would be very competitive and I am sure he has a good future in prototypes.”
Lyons, who has plenty of experience in powerful, high downforce machinery, having competed in Historic F1 and in Group C (with a Gebhardt C91) this year.
“I really enjoyed it. I really pushed myself with getting used to the aero levels particularly through Riches. Also, getting used to the carbon brakes was the main thing and I managed to do that quite quickly,” said Lyons.
“I did a short stint and then a longer one. It was a really good experience and has left me wanting more. It is a logical progression for me to go to LMP2. We have to wait and see what happens especially with the re-classification of drivers categorisations. Given the right opportunity I would definitely make the move up.”
