The early laps of the first daytime Free Practice session saw a pair of Wolf CN2s exchanging timing screen punches.
Last night’s fastest in class, the #45 Avelon Formula car of Ivan Bellarosa, again set the early pace before being reeled in by the #48 CRM Motorsport car Bellarosa though was soon back ahead and gradually edged his times down into the very low 2:12s.
Marco Frezza though would put his #11 Kessel Ferrari on top soon afterwards, a 2:12.124 at the end of a fast sequence of laps.
The Wolf man though responded immediately, and was soon down into the 2:11s, fastest of the weekend so far – to consecutive laps in the 1:11.9s before a brief red flag with 34 minutes remaining, we believe for the #77 AF Corse Ferrari being briefly off track.
The #2 Black Falcon Mercedes meanwhile had moved up to third fastest with Richard Muscat at the wheel.
Almost immediately after the red Flag interruption, and with a clear track ahead of him, Bellarosa stormed round in a 2:11.242, dropping that to a 2:11.199 next time around, then a 2:11.147!
Davide Rigon popped up third meanwhile in the #3 AF Corse Ferrari.
Not for long though as Bernd Schneider found a clear lap – and was the second man down into the 2:11s, 2:11.679 for the #1 Abu Dhabi Racing Black Falcon Mercedes.
The #77 AF Corse car was soon second fastest though as Schneider pitted to hand over the Mercedes to Jeroen Bleekemolen, Michele Rugolo then nipped in a 2:11.576 to grab second spot in the last few moments of the session with Jeroen Bleekemolen banging in a 2:11.6 to finish the session in third.
