To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Derek Bell’s first Le Mans victory with Jackie Ickx in 1975, the winning Gulf GR8 will be on display at the Hotel de France before moving to Le Musée des 24 Heures for most of the race weekend. Bell himself will be on hand for the occasion and therefore reunited with the historic car.
Part of the ROFGO collection, the GR8’s display at the hotel will not only represent the 40-year period since the win, but significantly, showcase the car at the place which the Gulf team stayed during its stint at Le Mans.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to reunite Derek with the car he first won Le Mans in,” says Gulf Oil’s Caroline Parker. “Gulf and Le Mans go back almost 50 years, the GR8 is unique in that its the only winning car to carry a sponsor name as part of its officially recognised designation.
“We are really looking forward to the celebrations.”
