German team Pro Sport Performance will tackle their first Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour next February with a pair of Porsche Cayman entries to the Mountain next year entered in Class C, for GT4 vehicles.
Pro Sport, founded in 1988, has a long record of success at the famous German circuit, notching up six outright wins and more than 100 class victories in the Nurburgring-based VLN endurance series.
The team was the first ever to compete with Porsche’s Cayman model in the VLN series.
As well as scoring several class victories in the Nurburgring 24 Hour, the team has also won a GT4 series title using a Porsche 911, and sored several class victories in GT4 competition using their Bathurst-bound Caymans.
The team, yet to confirm their full driving squad, is excited to be heading ‘down under’ for the first time.
“If you have to name the big endurance races worldwide, it will be LeMans, Daytona, Nurburgring and Bathurst,” explained team manager Steve Buschmann.
“We race at the Nurburgring and know the Nordscleife by heart. It’s time to make the next step and Bathurst is a dream for all of us. Both tracks have some things in common: one mistake and you are out and the ‘ups and downs’. We are really curious about the reality of Mount Panorama.
“None of us have been in Australia so far and all of us are looking forward to going ‘down under’ and get to know the people and the culture.
“Nevertheless, the most important thing for us is an exciting race.”
With his team so proactive in the burgeoning GT4 class, Buschmann hopes Pro Sport’s addition to the Bathurst 12 Hour grid will help grow the baby GT class in Australia as well.
“Our focus is on GT4 class as it is in Europe. We hope to push this class with our entry. It is a growing market and will become more and more important, in our opinion.”
To win their class in the 2016 race Pro Sport Performance will need to topple the defending winners, Tony Alford’s Donut King Racing Lotus Exige Cup R.
Additional entries are expected in the GT4 class prior to entries closing in mid-December.
