We wrote in the wake of the failure of the planned new Porsche Cayman Clubsport GT4 cars to appear at the British GT Championship media day of the delays to homologation and delivery for the GT4 spec version of a car that has proved to be an immensely popular addition to the Porsche Motorsport range (road car version pictured above).
Porsche sources in Germany have confirmed that there are likely to be further delays (beyond the dates quoted for next week) for UK customer cars with mid-May the predicted delivery point for the UK batch.
Progress has though been made with both BoP and homologation with the car believed to have been tested within the permitted performance window for GT4 and with GT4-specific parts being tested in competition on the Nordschliefe on Clubsport-spec cars.
That UK batch though will no longer include though a pair of cars for Lanan Racing, despite an entry having been posted by the team for the British GT Championship.
The team’s order for a pair of GT4 spec Caymans was cancelled by Porsche after an online advertisement appeared offering a pair of UK based cars for sale, Porsche communicating to Lanan racing that they were terminating the contract on the basis that it was the Lanan order that was being advertised (this a breach of the terms of the sale).
This is despite the fact that multiple DSC sources have confirmed that the cars offered for sale are NOT the Lanan cars.
Lanan Racing Team Owner Graham Johnson: “Whilst we have been, of course, frustrated that the cars were delayed we had stuck with the programme, and entered a car for the full British GT Championship (for Joey Foster and Alex Reed).
“Of course with the delay we found out about we needed a Plan B for the opening rounds but the letter from Porsche was a complete surprise.
“It is absolutely not our cars that were advertised, why would we do that with a customer in place?”
“We have tried to reassure Porsche that they have got this wrong and I have to say I am very disappointed, not to say rather angry, and not a little confused, that they appear unwilling to enter into any discussion whatsoever with a brand new customer that showed faith in a car that there was a lot of fanfare about.”
The team’s interim Ginetta G55 GT4 raced to seventh position in the GT4 class at the Brands Hatch season opener over the weekend with Johnson making it clear that they will continue with Ginetta for the time being.
Simpson Engineering still intend to enter one of their Porsche Cayman Clubsport GT4s later this year in the British GT Championship.
Porsche GB declined an opportunity to comment when contacted by DSC.
