Le Mans: Notes From Monday Scrutineering 1

A light shower or two punctuated proceedings at Scrutineering this morning as a further 14 cars cleared the necessary pre-race processes.

Steady rainfall yesterday has seen some minor local flooding, some of the Le Mans campsites might be a touch moist!

Marc Goossens arrived this morning after missing the slot for his Murphy Prototypes team yesterday. The Ballistic Belgian was racing at Brands Hatch on Sunday in the NASCAR Euro Whelen Series, taking a third place on his debut.

Le Mans city centre yesterday saw a second major public event where the wet weather was less of an issue. 20,000 plastic ducks were released into the river Sarthe as part of a charity fundraising drive.

The first duck to cross the line downstream belonged to Stéphane Gaudemer of Fresnay-sur-Sarthe, who was understandably delighted to win a brand new Opel Karl city car, known in the UK as the new Vauxhall Viva.

Monday morning saw the youngest driver for the 2016 running of the Le Mans 24 Hours complete his equipment checks. Nineteen year-old Matheo Tuscher is the only teenager on the entry list this year but is currently sitting second in the WEC drivers Championship standings, together with his #13 Rebellion team-mates, courtesy of a pair of third place overall finishes at Silverstone and Spa.

A popular team again here this morning was Clearwater Racing. The chromed Ferrari 458 a real crowd pleaser. As revealed last week, the team has switched from McLaren to Ferrari for the Asian Le Mans Series, with a 488 GT3 joining the equipment inventory. It will be one of a pair for the team, with the Ferrari’s ability to be upgraded to a GTE car a key determinant of the decision. Its unlikely to be the last time we see the team here in Le Mans!

Breaking for lunch and the rain came, again!
