42 Cars On Provisional Gulf 12 Hours Entry

Further additions to the already strong field

The latest version of the provisional Gulf 12 Hours entry list for the race this December includes a highly encouraging 42 cars, with many teams running multiple cars. Should the entry retain its numbers, it’s a huge jump from last year’s event that featured just 19 entries split over the GT3, CN and Cup classes.

This year’s race is set to feature four classes (Prototype, GT3, GTX and Porsche Cup), with the most notable additions coming in the form of LMP3 cars in the Prototype category. Race organisers had to abandon plans for an LMPO3 class in 2015 after several promised entries fell foul of the decision by Ginetta to shift their primary focus to the G57 from their LMP3 programme.

Many of the GT3 runners from 2015’s race on the list are set to return. Kessel Racing, which won the two-part race in 2015, is set to bring four Ferraris (458s and 488s), as well as the Oman Racing Team which finished third with a sole Aston Vantage. Also on the list from last year’s entry are Brookspeed with a GT3 Porsche 991, Equipe Verschuur with its Renault RS.01, GDL Racing which has expanded to a trio of Lambos and Dragon Racing with its single Ferrari 458.

Among the other GT3 runners also on the bill are British GT regulars TF Sport, Optimium Motorsport and Motorbase Performance (which will also run the Oman entry).

Like Kessel Racing, Spirit of Race is also brining four Ferrari GT3 cars to the class which features a total of 26 cars.

Another category which has grown in in numbers is the Prototype class after just one CN Wolf competed last year. It features two Avelon Formula Wolf GB08s and five Ligier JS P3s from the ELMS LMP3 class. Graff is entering a pair, with Scuderia Villorba Corse, Ultimate and Tockwith Motorsports, which is also entering a GT3 Audi R8, all bringing one too.

The GTX and Porsche Cup classes feature six and three entrants respectively.

Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi is set to host the Gulf 12 Hours once again, which is due to run from the 14th to the 17th of December.
