IMSA have responded to the continued from of the Ford GTs after dominant showings not just at Le Mans but at last weekend’s Sahlens 6 Hours of the Glen.
The back to back nature of the following IMSA race this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park looked unlikely to allow the North American governing body to respond with a rule in place preventing BoP alterations being made within seven days of an event either to the Fords, or to the currently seemingly uncompetitive GTLM class Porsches and Corvettes.
IMSA though decided in the immediate aftermath of the Watkins Glen meeting to implement a ‘catch-all’ rule to allow officials to act outside the regular rules framework.
That means that there will be a raft of changes for the GTLM field for this weekend’s CTMP race.
The Corvette Racing C7.Rs and Porsche’s 911 RSRs will therefore lose 10 kilos and the Vettes additionally will get a 0.4mm restrictor break to boost power (together with a small increase in fuel capacity to offset the subsequent reduction in fuel efficiency).
The Ford GTs meanwhile get 15 kilos of weight added with a further penalty of a turbo boost restriction.
