With the sister car undergoing lengthy repairs following a heavy accident in FP1, Jon Barnes gave TF Sport something to smile about ahead of Qualifying by running quickest in his #11 Aston Martin V12 Vantage. Down in GT4 Ecurie Ecosse’s continued to pace the field with Ciaran Haggerty setting a time over half a second clear of the other runners.
Barnes’ best lap of the session ended up being a 2:21.899 in the session which was interrupted by an early red flag period for a stranded which shortened the 50-minute session by 10 minutes. His time was slower than Morris’ best from FP1, but still 1.3 quicker than the second-placed #33 Black Falcon Mercedes AMG GT3 of Dani Juncadella.
Third fastest was the #33 Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan after Phil Keen once again set the car’s quickest time; a 2:23.816.
The FP1-leading Parker Bentley of Seb Morries and Rick Parfitt ended up fourth – two seconds off – with the Optimum Audi R8 LMS bookending the top five.
Haggerty’s class-topping time in GT4 was seven tenths quicker than the best of the GT4 European Series runners which finished second.
Of the British GT4 field, the next best car after the McLaren was the Optimum Ginetta of Graham Johnson and Mike Robinson which could only manage eighth quickest of the GT4s and 1.4 seconds adrift of Haggerty’s best.
Third was the Lanan Racing Ginetta of Alex Reed and Joey Foster, just a tenth off the Optimum G55.
Qualifying in the Ardennes starts at 15:45 local time in Belgium.
