Zanardi Wins Paralympic H5 Road Time Trial In Rio

15 years after his career-defining incident

Alex Zanardi won another Olympic Gold yesterday in the H5 road time trial in the Rio Paralympic Games, bringing his total to three, after winning a pair back in the 2012 Olympics in London.

Remarkably, his Rio result came on the eve of the 15th anniversary of his massive Lausitzring accident back in 2001 that saw the Italian racer lose both his lower legs.

“I feel very lucky, I feel my life is a never-ending privilege,” Ex-F1 driver Zanardi said after taking his latest hand cycling victory.

“Where today you have the Olympic Stadium, on that piece of land they used to have an Indy Car circuit which is where I won my first pole position, is quite special for a romantic guy like me.”

Zanardi, who aside from competing in various forms of Motorsport since the accident – including GT racing, most notably in the 2015 Spa 24 Hours – has won eight hand cycling world titles since 2009, and is set to compete in the road race in today in Rio too.

DSC wishes Alex the best of luck, in representing Italy with an incredible amount of class on the world stage once again.
