Markus Palttala has been named a last-minute sub for Bill Auberlen in Turner Motorsport’s GTD BMW M6 GT3 for this weekend’s IMSA race at Road America.
Palttala returns to the team for the first time since the NAEC round at Watkins Glen, which the team won. This weekend he will be sharing driving duties with Robby Foley.
Auberlen’s absence comes after he suffered a minor accident during some home repairs yesterday.
“All these years racing cars and I slip off a ladder at home,” Auberlen said. “I’m a little sore and wanted to race, but BMW of North America suggested I sit this one out to be 100 percent ready for the next race at VIR.”
This is only the second race the veteran has missed in his long career. He was sidelined in August 2001 after a crash at Mosport.
