Whilst next weekend sees the endurance racing clash of the season with the FIA WEC at Fuji and IMSA’s season finale at Petit Le Mans there was no shortage of racing action underway over the past few days. And the number 888 featured rather prominently!
The Bathurst 1000 fell to Craig Lowndes (his seventh) and Steven Richards (his fifth) with the #888 Holden Commodore – The win, in Lowndes final start as a full season Supercars Driver, puts him level on overall wins with his co-driver’s father Jim Richards!
Lowndes also has two wins at the Bathurst 12 Hour on his astonishing cv! Does more international endurance racing feature in the future for Lowndes?
As part of the supporting activity for the Great Race, Ford staged a demonstration featuring the relative pace of a Mustang GT4, Falcon Supercar and, running for the first time at the epic Mount Panorama circuit, a Ford GT – GTLM/ GTE Pro car (in the hands of Ryan Briscoe).
SIC 888 – #888 Audi Wins!
The inaugural SIC 888 (888 kilometres of racing at the Shanghai International Circuit) took place over the weekend too with a mixed 22 car field of GTs and Touring Cars.
Absolute Racing scored a 1,2 finish with the (yes!) #888 Audi R8 LMS GT3 (Martin Rump/ Bao Jinlong/ Yuan Bo) taking the win ahead of team car #13 with Congfu Cheng, Adderly Fong and Sun Jingzu.
The #5 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo came home third overall with Fu Songyang (Sean), Andrea Caldarelli, Andrea Amici, and Hiroshi Hamaguchi.
The GT4 class went to the #89 Audi R8 LMS GT4 of Rio Haryanto, Anderson Tanoto and Andrew Haryanto, 5th overall after issues for a couple of the GT3 runners.
