Friday morning’s three quick fire 50 minute Free Practice Sessions, with just saw frantic efforts by several leading teams not to go too fast! With the fastest LMP3s still rather faster than the quickest GT3s there are clearly tactics at large to influence potential revisions to the BoP pre-race.
That said some runners were up to speed, and the #39 and #4 Graff LMP2s topped FP1 and FP2 in line astern on the timing screens, a 2:08.056 in the first session the fastest time of the morning.
In contrast only one GT3 car dipped under 2:10 in any of the three sessions, Ross Gunn firing in a 2:09.913 in the #98 Beechdean Aston in FP1. The Oman Racing car was in the mix at the top of timing during the morning too, Jonny Adam second fastest overall in the somewhat slower FP3 that was headed not by an LMP3 car but by the #88 Car Collection Audi and also second fastest GT3 car in FP1 (in the hands of Darren Turner), just ahead of the #5 McLaren 720S GT3, Ben Barnicoat popping in the fastest lap for the car in the session.
All three sessions were headed in GT4 by AMG GT4s, the #25 Cicely Motorsport car fastest in FP1 with Frank Bird, and in FP2 with Jordan Witt and Andy Meyrick quickest in class in FP3 in the #66 Bullitt car.
