A number of teams this weekend are sporting liveries in support of the Bahamas and various efforts devoted to helping the Bahamas recover from Hurricane Dorian.
The #5 KMW Motorsport Alfa Romeo Giulietta has perhaps gone the farthest with an entire livery dedicated to the Bahamas. The car will run with a blue and yellow scheme this weekend, the colours of the flag of the Bahamas. The team has also partnered with the charity Convoy of Hope to raise money. In addition, an anonymous donor has pledged to match every dollar that the team is able to raise and sent to the charity.
American Medical Response, the official safety crew for IMSA has sent four fully stocked ambulances to the island nation. They were handed over to local officials to use on Monday of this week.
Fast MD racing and the team’s namesake organisation, Florida Advanced Spine and Sports Trauma Centers have sent doctors and medical supplies to the Bahamas. Still, though, they are looking to send more doctors and materials to help treat the victims of the hurricane.
Multiple teams are sporting new and some bringing back old liveries this weekend at Laguna Seca.
The #96 Turner Motorsports BMW M6 GT3 has returned to its red, white, and blue Liqui Moly colours. Meanwhile, the #24 BMW M8 GTE has returned to its black colour scheme, making the two BMW M8s much easier to tell apart.
The #12 AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC-F GT3 will be sporting a completely new livery, with software and technology company MemSQL extending their partnership with Townsend Bell and the team.
This weekend’s IMSA race is part one of back-to-back weekends of racing at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Next weekend, the IndyCar series comes into town for their season finale and teams like Penske and Ganassi are getting a head start on preparations, Ganassi has already moved their orange PNC Bank golf cart into the paddock.
This is the home race for the LMP2 championship-leading #52 PR1/Mathiasen crew. The team is based just under three hours away in California’s agricultural centre in Fresno, California.
Naturally, the team was able to bring with them some extended family and friends to take in the weekend with.
“It’s just great to be able to have the family and the kids all come over, aunts and uncles and grandmas and just being able to go over into the campground and enjoy some time with the family,” Bobby Orgel, the owner and team principal of PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports.
DSC also understands that plans are well in motion for the team to try and enter a second LMP2 car in IMSA competition next year, more details on that can be expected in the coming days and weeks.
The team had completed two tests with their second ORECA 07 chassis before it had to be sent back to Europe for use by United Autosports. Another ORECA 07 is expected to arrive at their shop next week, though.
