Following the ELMS and the Michelin Le Mans Cup finale held in Portimao this weekend, the ACO delivered five additional automatic invitations for the 2020 24 Hours of Le Mans:
IDEC Sport and G-Drive Racing both won a place in the LMP2 category for their respective first and second place in the ELMS LMP2 Championship.
EuroInternational also won an invitation in the LMP2 category after winning the ELMS LMP3 Title though that result is still subject to an appeal from Inter Europol Competition after their post-race penalty for a driving hours infringement.
Proton Competition was awarded an invitation for their second place in the ELMS LMGTE Category, this despite their #77 car being written off on lap one of the final race at Portimao, damage for their closest contenders saw them unable to overhaul the points tally already gained by the Porsche. They will have the possibility to choose between an entry in the LM GTE Pro or the LM GTE Am class at Le Mans.
Finally, Kessel Racing was invited in the LM GTE Am category after winning the GT3 category of Michelin Le Mans Cup this season.
Before this race weekend, thirty eight spots had already been awarded including 33 for the full season entrants accepted in the FIA World Endurance Championship, four to the winners of last year’s 24 Hours Of Le Mans (Toyota Gazoo Racing in LMP1, Signatech Alpine in LMP2, AF Corse in LMGTE Pro and Team Project 1 in LMGTE Am) and one to Luzich Racing as the ELMS LMGTE Championship winner, that result secured at the penultimate race at Spa last month.
Five additional invitations will be confirmed in the coming months including:
– Two, at the discretion of the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship organisers – nominally for the winners of the Akin and Truman trophies for the most successful Gentleman driver in GTD and LMP2.
– and Four for the LMP2, LMP2 Am, LMP3 and GT class winners of the Asian Le Mans Series
Invitations delivered to competitors of the ELMS, IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship, Asian LMS and Michelin Le Mans Cup can only be allocated if the Competitor has participated in all the events of the concerned Series/Championship concerned.
A Competitor cannot hold concurrently more than 2 invitations, all categories combined.
