Two of the four Proton Competition LM GTE-Am entries for the 2020 Le Mans 24 Hours now have confirmed driver line-ups.
The full season FIA WEC #77 Porsche 911 RSR will retain its regular crew of Christian Ried, Ricardo Pera and Matt Campbell, Ried and Campbell looking to double up on their 2018 class win in what is likely to be the penultimate WEC appearance for the 2017 spec 911 RSR, Proton having already obtained four new-spec 911 RSRs for 2021 programmes.
The second FIA WEC car, the #88 meanwhile will see Lucas Legeret, Vutthikorn Inthraphuvasak and Ricardo Sanchez contest Le Mans, the same trio will also race next weekend at the 6 Hours of Spa as the WEC comes back to racing for the first time following the COVID-19 pandemic.
2014 Nissan GT Academy International winner Sanchez is the only driver of the trio with GTE race experience, he raced in both the ELMS and WEC in 2019 at Silverstone for Proton, taking the ELMS race win.
Legeret has GT3 and LMP3 experience on his cv, including a run at the Road To Le Mans in 2017.
45 year old Thai driver Inthraphuvasak has extensive GT3 racing experience including last year’s GT3 Pro-Am title in the GT World Challenge Asia.
Spa though will be his GTE race debut.
The two remaining Proton-entered Porsches are set to see their driver squads finalised in the coming days.
One driver who will not feature in 2020 is 2020 ELMS driver Michal Fassbender, the Irish/ German actor is understood to be targeting the 2021 Le Mans 24 Hours in his programme which started with Proton at Paul Ricard last month.
