Pfaff Motorsports will return to competition at Petit Le Mans with their #9 Porsche 911 GT3 R. This marks the first race for the team since the Rolex 24 at Daytona after being forced to withdraw from the other rounds due to COVID-19-related travel-restrictions between the United States and Canada, where the team is based.
“It was very disappointing not to be racing in July when the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship made its return,” said team manager Steve Bortolotti.
“We felt we had all the pieces in place to make a run at the championship in our sophomore season. Our team is made up predominantly of Pfaff employees who work in our dealerships when not racing; travel restrictions between the United States and Canada made a full-season return impossible in July when the series resumed,” Bortolotti added.
While travel-restrictions are still in place, the team decided that getting to race at Petit Le Mans was worth enduring the fourteen-day quarantine period upon returning home to Canada.
For, “Petit Le Mans, quarantining for two weeks upon returning to Canada for the series’ signature event made sense for all of us, especially as a way to thank our partners for sticking by our side during these challenging times,” Bortolotti said.
Zach Robichon, Dennis Olsen, and Lars Kern will be the driving-lineup for the team at Road Atlanta. All three previously ran the Rolex 24 at Daytona together earlier in the year.
The return of Pfaff gives the GTD class a much-needed boost after just 12 cars ran at Mid-Ohio.
