Winward Racing Confirm 2 x AMG GT3 For 2021 DTM

Lucas Auer and Philip Ellis

German-US team outfit Winward Racing will enter a pair of Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evos in the 2021 DTM for Austrian Lucas Auer and German-British driver Philip Ellis.

Lucas Auer is set to return to the DTM where he has a record of five race wins, four with Mercedes Benz plus his most recent victory, with BMW at Lausitzring in August last year. Auer is the nephew of DTM boss Gerhard Berger.

Philip Ellis is set to make his DTM debut having made his racing reputation as the Champion in the DTM-supporting Audi TT Cup in 2017.

Born in Munich, having both British and German nationality and living in Switzerland, Ellis was among the winning Winward Racing GTD drivers at Daytona in January.

The announcement from Winward brings the number of confirmed Mercedes AMG entries to five with a single car from GruppeM Racing and a pair from Haupt Racing Team.

BMW have three cars currently confirmed with a solo effort from Walkenhorst joining a pair from ROWE Racing.

Audi have two x two-car efforts from Team Rosberg and Abt Sportsline.

Ferrari have a pair of Red Bull-backed cars fielded by AF Corse.

McLaren have three entries announced but there are doubts about the two confirmed by 2 Seas Motorsport after the team switched from McLaren to Mercedes last month putting their two 720S GT3 up for sale and with the AMG announcement making no mention of the DTM. Jenson Team Rocket RJN have confirmed a single McLaren.
