The final 60 minutes of Free Practice action at Portimao once again saw an LMP2 at the top of the times as Paul di Resta topped the times for the second consecutive session in the #22 United Autosports Oreca, a 1:31.628 pushing the early effort of Alex Brundle in the #34 Inter Europol Oreca back down the order, Brundle’s effort would stand as third fastest in class but sixth fastest overall in the session after Antonio Felix da Costa set second fastest LMP2 time mid session in the #38 Jota car.
The top trio in LMP2 would see the Hypercars get involved in the scrap this time though as Nico Lapierre went fastest overall in the #36 Alpine with a 1:31.652 before di Resta’s session topping effort pipped him down to second overall, with late session efforts from Sebastien Buemi putting the #8 Toyota GR010fifth fastest, and a three-lap string of quick laps from Richard Westbrook launching the Glickenhaus into fourth overall ahead of both Toyotas, less than three tenths off the session-topping time.
Kevin Estre topped GTE Pro in the #92 Porsche, a 1:38.082 well clear of Gianmaria Bruni in the sister #91 and Daniel Serra in the #52 Ferrari.
Once again Matteo Cairoli posted a GTE Am time worthy of the Pro class, his 1:39.186 besting the efforts of the #51 GTE Pro Ferrari and four-tenths up on those of matt Campbell (#77 Dempsey Proton Porsche) and Giancarlo Fisichella 9#54 AF Corse Ferrari.
Qualifying gets underway at 18:00 local time.
