G-Drive Racing Set To Return To FIA WEC and To Make Rolex 24 Hours Debut

Rusinov set to step down from driving for WEC - Algarve Pro Racing set to continue as partner team

G-Drive Racing are set to return to a full season effort in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2022 for the first time since 2016 in search of the team’s second LMP2 WEC title, this the team’s tenth season in LMP2.

And the Russian-flagged effort, again set to be partnered with Algarve Pro Racing in 2022 will also make their debut appearance at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona with two cars under the G-Drive with Algarve Pro Racing banner.

DSC believes though that the WEC programme, believed to be for a single ORECA 07 Gibson, will not feature Roman Rusinov as part of the driver line-up, the veteran endurance racer will instead concentrate on team management for the WEC effort.

G-Drive Racing’s partnership with Algarve Pro Racing will continue a successful link that has delivered two Asian Le Mans Series titles and one European Le Mans Series championship trophy since the two organizations started their collaboration in 2019.

Alexander Krylov, head of G-Drive Racing: “The 10th season for G-Drive Racing in 2022 will be a very special one which also includes our tenth participation in the 24 hours of Le Mans.

“Since our first event, we have competed in many events, winning races and titles and rewriting the LMP2 record books. G-Drive Racing has established itself as the most successful team in LMP2 history but we do not intend to stop here and have begun our intense planning and preparations for the upcoming racing season.

“And with our plans, 2022 will perhaps be the most eventful year in the history of our team”.

Roman Rusinov, G-Drive Racing’s team principal: “The final programme is still being formed, but now we are announcing our return to the FIA WEC, as well as our first participation in the 24 Hours of Daytona.

“The process of selecting our drivers for the upcoming season is ongoing and we will announce our final line-up in due course. While these decisions take some time and are vital for the team’s success, I can only note that I, myself, am not planning to compete in the FIA World Endurance Champions as a driver, but will concentrate on the team’s management of the team as we challenge for even more title-success.

“A large part of that challenge is continuing the partnership with Algarve Pro Racing whose expertise and experience has helped G-Drive Racing to take three titles in the last two seasons.. ”

Algarve Pro Racing Team Principal, Stewart Cox, said:

“We’re delighted to be extending and expanding what has already been an incredibly successful partnership with G-Drive Racing. Together, we’ve sealed three titles on two continents since the start of our association in 2019, winning the Asian Le Mans Series two years in succession and backing that up with the 2021 European Le Mans Series Pro-Am trophy.

“As a result, it’s time to step up to the world stage in the FIA World Endurance Championship, and the aim has to be to shoot for the endurance racing ‘Triple Crown’ at Daytona, Sebring and Le Mans. It’s going to be a big year for Algarve Pro Racing and we’re already deep into our preparations, and we’re raring to get going.”

DSC expects Algarve Pro Racing to contest the European Le Mans Series, and likely the three other IMSA enduros in 2022 – The team will not though defend their Asian Le Mans Series title.

UPDATE – F2 multiple race winner Luca Ghiotto has confirmed that he will form part of the G-Drive team at the Rolex 24 Hours
