Carbahn with Peregrine Racing Switch To Lamborghini For 2022 IMSA Campaign

Robert Megennis with Jeff Westphal for full season

Carbahn with Peregrine Racing will switch from Audi to Lamborghini for their 2022 IMSA programme with a new Huracán GT3 EVO for the returning Jeff Westphal, paired for the coming season with new team-mate Robert Megennis.

The only American to ever win pole for the Nurburgring 24, Westphal brings his speed and experience back to the new-look Peregrine outfit in 2022. A number of impressive performances saw the 2019 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge Champion achieve a sixth place finish in the IMSA WeatherTech Sprint Cup Championship with Peregrine in 2021. Westphal’s experience contesting the GTD Michelin Endurance Cup will be crucial for Peregrine in the coming year.

“2022 will be an exciting year for the Carbahn with Peregrine Racing team,” said Westphal. “We got our feet wet in the IMSA Sprint Cup for 2021 and now we are moving into the full IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, meaning that we add the crown jewels of sports car racing to the list—the Rolex 24 at DAYTONA, The 12 Hours of Sebring, Motul Petit Le Mans and Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen. I am personally excited for the addition of new partners and relationships heading into 2022, not the least of which is our switch to Lamborghini, a brand with an aggressive and proven platform in years past that we’ll carry into the coming years! This team has such a talented core group of individuals, and I know we are all eager to put 110% effort into the full season of IMSA competition.”

Robert Megennis also brings plenty of GTD Michelin Endurance Cup experience to Peregrine after some standout performances in the Vasser Sullivan Lexus squad that included a podium finish at the season Finale at Petit Le Mans.

Still a college student, the driver from New York City boasts an impressive resume in open wheel and endurance machinery, with wins in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship and Indy Lights Championship to his name.

“I am super excited to be joining Peregrine Racing, Carbahn Motorsports, and Lamborghini for the 2022 IMSA WeatherTech season,” said Megennis. “I’m eager to apply all that I’ve learned from racing in Indy Lights and from running the 2021 Michelin Endurance Cup to my first full year in sports cars. Peregrine is an amazing team, Lamborghini is an incredible manufacturer, and I cannot wait to partner with someone as talented and experienced as Jeff. I know everything is there for us to win races this year, and I am thankful to SailPoint, Optimizely, DataRobot, Palantir, and everyone else involved for this opportunity.”

The Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO package has proved to be very successful success in the GTD class in recent years. Lamborghini was the IMSA GTD Manufacturer Champion in 2018 and 2019 and the platform has won 10 races since 2016 in an extremely deep GTD field. In 2021, the Huracán (in the hands of Paul Miller racing) finished runner-up in a title fight that came down to the final race.

“It’s exciting to be entering the full 2022 WeatherTech Championship with Lamborghini as our partner,” said team owner Mark Siegel. “The Huracán is the sister car to what we ran in the Sprint Cup last season, so our development work from 2021 should carry over and give us an extremely competitive entry. We’re also looking forward to seeing a great new driver, Robert Megennis, behind the wheel of the GTD car with Jeff Westphal. Our program will continue to include entries in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class, and we will be bringing on new corporate sponsors this season to join us as our team grows and we set our sights on even more ambitious achievements!”
