WeatherTech Racing Closing In On Multi-Marque Rolex 24 GTD Effort

AMG and Porsche looking likely, GTD or GTD Pro

DSC has learned that a decision is imminent on what looks set to be a two-car WeatherTech Racing effort in either GTD or GTD Pro at the 2022 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona with the anticipated Porsche effort set to be joined by at least a second car, most likely the team’s Mercedes AMG GT3 Evo, for the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship season-opener.

A spokesperson for the team, whilst not confirming the detail of plans or options, did not deny that a two-car effort was in active preparation, but would not confirm whether, as expected, the Rolex 24 effort would be in GTD, or, as now seems very possible, in the new-for 2022 GTD Pro class.

DSC understands that a GTD Pro run is possible with multiple teams awaiting final Sporting Regulations for the new-for-2022 class with regard to required drive times.

Whatever the decision, the combined GTD/ GTD Pro grid for the Rolex 24 Hours is growing steadily with several more high-profile efforts still to be announced in what looks set to be a bumper grid for the 2022 race.

The WeatherTech brand has been seen on Mercedes AMG (2017) (Pictured top), Ferrari (2018 -2020 ) and Porsche (2021) GTD and GTLM machinery in recent seasons with race-winning success with all three brands. The team are known to have current spec GTD versions of all three brands’ available.
