It’s been a good news/ bad news end to 2021 for the organisers of the Gulf 12 Hours, set to take place next weekend at Yas Marina Circuit Abu Dhabi.
Significant logistical issues, coupled with the reluctance of some teams to travel due to the current COVID situation will see the entry list unconfirmed until shortly before the race weekend.
One confirmed no-show is the United Autosports McLaren GT4 effort which was set to see team co-owners Zak Brown and Richard Dean share a Mclaren 570S GT4 with McLaren IndyCar stars Felix Rosenqvist and Pato O’Ward. The team has withdrawn citing new scheduling commitments.
Happier news comes from AF Corse who have confirmed their two entries in GT3 with some familiar names in both cars:
The #51 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo will see Ferrari Challenge drivers Alessandro Cozzi, and Tani Hanna joined by FIA WEC racer Giorgio Sernagiotto, and regular ‘Super Bronze’ Rino Mastronardi.
The sister #61 Ferrari sees the Am class winning trio from the Indianapolis 8 Hours of Jean Claude Saada, Conrad Grunewald, and Mark Kvamme, reconvene, to be joined by IMSA racer Trenton Estep.
Race organisers have confirmed live video steaming for the 2 x 6 hour event with David Addison and Mark Werrell joined in pit lane by Alan Hyde.
