A third MotoGP World Champion is racing on four wheels in 2022 with Jorge Lorenzo joining Valentino Rossi (GT World Challenge Europe) and Dani Pedrosa (Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe) in switching from two wheels to four.
Lorenzo is contesting the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia, which started at Imola last weekend, in a 911 GT3 Cup of the Q8 Hi Perform Team run by ex F1 racer Piercarlo Ghinzani.
The Imola outings saw Lorenzo make a tentative start to the campaign with a 17th place finish and a non-classified result in race 2.
It won’t be his first time in a GT machine though, the three-time Moto GP World Champion contested the Gulf 12 Hours back in 2014 in a Kessel Racing Ferrari 458 GT3, the entry a late-race retirement.
