Introduction of new LMP2 cars in 2025, Cars will be homologated for five years (from 2025 to 2030). One of the objectives of the new cars is to cut running costs. It is aimed at seducing privateers exclusively. The new generation LMP2 Chassis will be based on the spine of LMDH chassis. Four LMDH chassis manufacturers are allowed to bid: Multimatic, Ligier, Oreca, and Dallara.
An AOP (Adjustment of performance) system will be introduced in order to even the chances of the four-car manufacturers. That AOP will occur twice a year. The 2025 LMP2 cars may be asked to embed a hybrid power unit during the 5 years of the homologation period.
GTE Pro and GTE Am cars will be retired at the end of 2022 and 2023 respectively. A brand new category inspired from the GT3 class will be introduced in 2024. The name of the class is not locked yet. These cars will be run by privateers only. Hypercar manufacturers will be allowed to sell their GT3 cars.
Next year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans will occur on 10-11 Jun 2023. Tom Kristensen is the ambassador for this race. It is confirmed that the 2023 Trophy, a new design for the centenary, will be travelling the world next year before and after the big race. It is also confirmed that a documentary on the big race is being produced.
A five-year contract, running until 2027 has been signed between the ACO and Bahrain for the WEC.
It was confirmed that Hydrogen prototypes will be allowed to compete in Le Mans in 2025. The agenda is unchanged despite several senior sources suggesting a delay due to the current issues with the supply chain.
