Samantha Tan (ST) Racing is back after missing the previous GT World Challenge America race meeting at NOLA Motorsports Park, and their new-look, purple and pink #38 BMW M4 GT3 art car was fastest of all in Free Practice 1 at VIRginia International Raceway.
Tan’s co-driver, Nick Wittmer, set the fastest time of the session at 1’43.400, following a 15-minute red flag early in the session. The #91 Zelus Motorsports Lamborghini Huracan GT3 (Jeff Burton/Corey Lewis) had stopped on track, and it took some time for the session to resume.
Thankfully, there were no other interruptions on this warm, sunny Friday morning practice.
Behind Wittmer, the #04 CrowdStrike Racing with Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 (George Kurtz/Colin Braun) was second-fastest, with Braun setting a best time of 1’43.837.
The #13 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari 488 GT3 (Justin Wetherill/Ryan Dalziel) was third-fastest, followed by the #45 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3-R (Charlie Luck/Jan Heylen) in fourth.
The fastest of the Pro Cup cars was the #6 US Racetronics AMG GT3 driven by Steven Aghakhani, and Loris Spinelli, who set the fifth-fastest time overall. Of the two Am Cup cars, the #23 Triarsi Competizione Ferrari (Charlie Scardina/Onofrio Triarsi) was quickest, in 14th.
