Bert Longin has become a seven-time winner of the 24 Hours of Zolder as the PK Carport team took an historic win over the weekend in the 44th running of the race with the first overall win in a 24 Hour race for the new breed of GT2 machinery.
The team’s #11 Audi R8 LMS GT2, which they have campaigned previously in the 24 Hours of Dubai as well as in the GT2 European Series, came home three laps clear of the second placed Q1 Track Racing Porsche 992 Cup topping a 35 car field.
Together with Longin, the winning squad included first time 24H Zolder victors Peter Guelinckx and Nicolas Saelens plus a pair scoring a second win apiece, Dries Vanthoor and Stienes Longin.
The podium was completed by another Porsche 992 Cup car, the #78 Belgium Racing car edging out the similar #2 Porsche from Russel Racing by NGT by just 2.3 seconds at the flag.
Longin’s win adds to overall victories that go back to the first of a win treble from 2002-2004 in GLPK Racing Viper GTS.Rs with later victories coming in 2010 (Porsche 997 GT3 Cup_, 2010 (WRT Audi R8 LMS) and 2019 (Krafft racing Norma M20 FC).
His winning total edges him clear in the all-time standings of the race from six-time winners Marc Goossens and PK Carport Team Manager Anthony Kumpen.
