SRO’s rejuvenated GT2 class looks like it is becoming home to racing versions of mainstream marque’s supercars as well as the products of more bespoke outfits (eg Brabham and KTM).
Beyond the currently racing products of Audi, Porsche, Brabham, KTM and Lamborghini though, with Maserati set to join the list next year, there is another car built to GT2 regulations currently in competition.
It’s a highly unusual blend of a US designed base vehicle, US built donor chassis, US built (Ford) engine and Thai-designed and built underpinnings and bodywork, the whole project was conceived and funded by the inventor of the TecPro barrier system, French racer and entrepreneur Rafael Galiana.
The car, based around the iconic Daytona Cobra design and now dubbed the RR Motorsport GT Coupe, in deference to the Thai outfit that provided the design engineering and build for the project, has already seen a second evolution, with redesigned and lightened bodywork, all designed and built, we are told, in compliance with GT2 regulations.
The ‘Evo’ car had its race debut at Thailand’s Bangsaen Grand Prix last month (pic below), an annual racing festival that welcomes a variety of Series, including the GT racers of the Thai Super Series to several days of street race action.

The new car was placed in the GT4-based GTM category and scored a race finish, the RR Motorsport team gathering data and looking forward to some more wide-open spaces later in the year no doubt!
