The Dane Train Returns, GMB Motorsport Set For Le Mans & ELMS With Aston Martin

We’ll have to wait until Sunday lunchtime to confirm which of the trio of GMB Motorsport-run Honda NSX GT3 Evo22 efforts will clinch the Michelin Le Mans Cup GT3 Championship but the certainty now after an amazing 1,2,3 finish for the team at Spa, is that it will be one of them and that the automatic invitation to the 2023 Le Mans 24 Hours will go to the GMB Motorsport team.

With that in mind, DSC has learned that the team has obtained an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GTE car which looks likely to contest both the 2023 ELMS and Le Mans 24 Hours in the final year of GTE Am, again with an all Danish line-up. The ‘Dane Train’ efforts of years past with Aston Martin looks set then to be revived.

2023 Michelin Le Mans Cup driver Kristian Poulsen has already featured in that history of course with a GTE AM class win in 2014 alongside Nicki Thiim and David Heinemeier Hansson, Pulsen and DHH going on to win the FIA WEC class title that same year.

Current plans for the team also seem to include a return to the Michelin Le Mans Cup with at least one of the Hondas.

It’s already been quite a year for the team in the home market of Denmark, clinching the TCR Denmark Touring Car Series with Kasper Jensen last weekend and with potential for more national titles in a variety of formulae to follow.

The best news of all though for a nation steeped in endurance racing success is that they will be flying the flag at the centenary Le Mans 24 Hours.
