Late GT call-ups for Ollie Millroy and Tom Gamble
2022 Asian Le Mans Series GT Champion Ollie Millroy is a very late addition to the HubAuto Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 driver line-up alongside Jules Gounon and Liam Talbot.
This comes after yesterday’s clarification of driver times for two-driver crews threw a substantial spanner in the teams’ plans.
Millroy, who won the title last year as part of the Inception Racing McLaren team, has very recently relocated to the UAE and has been on site for much of the lead-up to the season start.
There is another late substitution in the GT class as well to report: 2020 European Le Mans Series LMP3 champion Tom Gamble is set to replace Marvin Kirchhöfer in the #88 Garage 59 McLaren 720S GT3 after the German fell ill during the race meeting.
Gamble, who’s spent the last three Asian Le Mans Series campaigns with D’station Racing, is currently en route to the circuit.
Bring Me Sunshine
Another bulletin issued last night makes a change to an initial direction from Race Officials around tyre warming.
Initial guidance to teams was that they were permitted to leave their tyres in direct sunlight. As with all other ACO rules series, no tyre warming devices are permitted in 2023.
However, as pointed out by several teams in the paddock, not every team has access to direct sunlight in a very crowded paddock.
To avoid a situation that offers a potential competitive advantage to some teams then, all teams have now been forbidden to leave tyres in direct sunlight unless fitted to the cars.
