Wright Motorsports Expands To Two-Car SRO America Effort With Adelson & Skeer

GT4 America front-runners step up to GT World Challenge America with Type 991.2 Porsche 911 GT3 R;

Wright Motorsports recently announced an expansion to a two-car programme in SRO America competition. After a successful first full season in GT4 America, Adam Adelson and Elliott Skeer will race the #120 Porsche 911 GT3 R (type 991.2) in the GT World Challenge America Pro-Am class, joining the returning and previously announced duo of Charlie Luck and Jan Heylen in the No. 45 Porsche 911 GT3 R (type 992).

They’ll be the second successful pair of drivers taking a step up from GT4 America to GT World Challenge America this season, after the announcement that Silver class champions Rennsport One (RS1), Eric Filgueiras, and Stevan McAleer would be moving up to SRO America’s top championship.

Adelson will also drive the green and yellow #120 Porsche in the multi-class GT America sprint series. GT World Challenge America begins their 2023 season from 31 March-2 April at Sonoma Raceway, and Adelson will kick off his third season in GT America that same weekend.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Adam and Elliott to the team,” said team owner John Wright. “In a very short amount of time, Adam has proven he has real talent behind the wheel, and together with Elliott, they did a great job in the Pirelli GT4 America championship last year. Both series offer lots of track time and strong competition, and we’re eager to get started.”

A true young Bronze-graded driver from Las Vegas, Nevada, Adelson began his racing career in 2019 at the age of 22 after starting off running track days the year before. He progressed through the Porsche Sprint Trophy West series and eventually advanced into SRO America competition by 2021 – first in a full season in GT America, then adding GT4 America to his programme alongside Skeer.

For his sophomore season in SRO, Adelson won two races and scored five podiums in GT4 America, and competed for the season championship all the way until the final round of the season at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In his first full season of GT4 America racing alongside Skeer, Adelson took three Pro-Am class wins including a weekend sweep at NOLA Motorsports Park in Louisiana. The duo would finish second in the Pro-Am championship standings.

“I’m beyond excited to be racing with Wright Motorsports in GT World Challenge America and GT America this year,” said Adelson. “When I made the decision to enter my first year of GT3 class racing, it was a no-brainer that Wright was the Wright choice. They have incredible racing pedigree and experience, and I have no doubt in my mind that they’ll do everything they possibly can to put Elliott and I at the front of the field. Elliott won the Porsche GT3 Cup with Wright in 2015, and now being his co-driver, I hope to do something along those lines with him this year in our 911 GT3 R.”

The 2023 season will see Skeer’s return to Wright Motorsports after he won the 2015 IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA title with them. Since then, Skeer has competed across North America’s most competitive series, including the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and the Pirelli GT4 America Pro-Am class.

In fact, Skeer and Adelson recently competed together in the 2023 IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge series opener at Daytona, where they came within half an hour of victory until a mechanical failure took them out of contention.

“I am ecstatic to be back at Wright Motorsports for the 2023 SRO season!” Skeer exclaimed. “Knowing the operation John has cultivated has me looking forward to how both Adam and myself will grow as racers and succeed in GT3 with all the necessary support behind us from such an experienced team. The SRO GT3 field has strengthened each year and continues to bring a world-class talent pool and I cannot wait to dive into and fight within, the ability to also make the jump with your best friend as a co-driver makes the experience even more special.”

“To me, everything about this feels Wright and I am eagerly counting down the days until we take the green flag at Sonoma. I have full trust in the WM team, in my co-driver, and in our Porsche, to maximize every opportunity we can on and off track. In a nice way, it’s like returning home.”
