Garage 59 Enters Pair Of McLarens In World Challenge Europe

Endurance and Sprint effort adds to its British GT commitment

Garage 59 has fully revealed its plan to compete in the GT World Challenge Europe and Sprint Cups in 2020 with the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo. This is in addition to its British GT programme, which will see it run a pair of 720S GT3 Evos in partnership with Sky Tempesta Racing.

For the team’s Endurance Cup effort, it will compete in both the Pro and Bronze categories with three McLarens.

For its single Pro 720S GT3 Evo (#159), reigning Silver Cup Champion Benji Goethe joins Garage 59 regular Nicolai Kjærgaard and McLaren factory racer, Marvin Kirchhöfer. For the Sprint Cup races, Goethe will pair with Kjærgaard.

“I’m very excited about the upcoming GT World Challenge season with Garage 59,” said Goethe. “It’s a great challenge for me to be racing in the Pro category with a new team and a new car and I can’t wait to get started.”

Meanwhile, its #188 will see reigning GT World Challenge Europe Overall and Sprint Cup Pro-Am Champion, Miguel Ramos, return to the team to race in the Bronze Cup class, alongside his long-time team mate Henrique Chaves and Louis Prette, who joined the team for Asian Le Mans this year. The Sprint Cup pairing will be Ramos and Chaves.

“I’m really looking forward to driving with Garage 59 again, this time in GT World Challenge,” said Prette. “It has been a steep learning curve for me with both the team and the car in Asian Le Mans and I feel confident about the coming season. Henrique and Miguel were my competitors throughout the 2020 season and it was tight all season long. They are both very good drivers and I’m happy to have them with me rather than against me this time! With this line-up we definitely have a shot at the championship and this is our target.”

Garage 59 will once again run a McLaren 720S GT3 for its British GT partner Sky Tempesta too. The driver squad sees Eddie Cheever, Chris Froggatt and Jonathan Hui take on the Bronze Cup category in the Endurance Cup running the #93.

This is the latest of a number of recent collaborations for the Sky Tempesta outfit. It first collaborated with Garage 59 at the Gulf 12 Hours in 2022, after a season spent with Mercedes AMG competing with GruppeM Racing (GT World Challenge), HRT (Spa 24 Hours) and 2Seas Motorsport (British GT).

“I am very excited about the partnership between Sky Tempesta Racing and Garage 59 and to be driving the new McLaren 720S GT3 Evo,” said Froggatt. “We can’t wait to see what we can achieve together. This is a new chapter for Sky Tempesta Racing and we’re excited to take on the challenges of the upcoming season with the support of our partners, fans, and sponsors.”
