Reigning Michelin Le Mans Cup GT champion and current ELMS and MLMC entrant GMB Motorsport is actively evaluating a full-season FIA WEC LM GT3 programme in 2024 with its Honda NSX GT3 Evo 22s, senior team sources have confirmed to DSC.
The Danish squad currently fields a pair of Hondas in the Michelin Le Mans Cup this season alongside a newly acquired and brand new Aston Martin Vantage GTE in the ELMS. Via its automatic invitation earned from winning the Le Mans Cup GT3 class last year, it will be present in GTE Am the 24 Hours of Le Mans this year too.
GMB’s Michelin Le Mans Cup effort, which saw a three-car Honda effort dominate the Le Mans Cup GT3 standings in 2022, is supported by Honda Racing via JAS Motorsport in Milan. It is a relationship that could be critical in any bid for a WEC programme as the current plan is for the OEM representatives to nominate entries for the LMGT3 class.
The Danish team’s potential programme throws another significant hat into the ring for the debut season of LMGT3 in the FIA WEC in 2024, with 8-9 slots looking set to be available for GT3 marques to field up to two cars apiece.
